Jia Day!!

We have Jia and she is so wonderful!

I really wanted to update you all yesterday, but it was such a busy day, and she and I were attached at the hip, practically.  I didn’t want to take any time away from her.

She did really well at the Civil Affairs Office.  They were over an hour later because of traffic, so we had lots of time to talk to our guide.  She’s a pretty neat lady.

When Jia came around the corner, she was certainly looking for someone.  She cam eright up to us.  Her auntie must have said, “give her a hug” because she came over and gave us me a hug and said “mama”.

Then she got a little nervous and started to fuss and look around uncomfortably.  I pulled out the bad of goodies we brought her and showed her a stuffed animal.  Not interested.  So I pulled out the photo album we made of her and all those pictures of her really got her attention.  That really put her at ease.

Then, awesome Daddy Mike stepped in and worked his Daddy magic and before long, she was giggling, laughing, and playing chase with him right there in the Civil Affairs Office.  We were the only family adopting, so we had whole place to ourselves along with the stares of all the employees. J

Jia bonded with Mike so quickly that when we went to use the bathroom and I was walking around the room with her, she kept saying “Something, something Baba?”  I’m sure it was “Where’s Daddy?”  She even ran into the men’s room looking for him didn’t like it when I had to stop her.   Thankfully, he came out quickly.

We spent about an hour there doing paperwork and talking with Jia’s nanny.  We then went to exchange our money and it also took a while.  Mike had lots of time to play with her while I was taking care of that and by the time we had to take the ride home, she was happy as a clam to be snuggled up next to him.

We spent most of the rest of the day in the room and we found out lots of things about her.

She’s funny and loves to laugh.  She LOVES cameras.  Of all the toys and games we brought, our digital camera has been the biggest hit.  She’s taken about 300 pictures.  She also loves my sunglasses and she loves to color.  And does pretty well too.  She’s very careful and likes to outline the letters.

She made eye contact very quickly and will look us in the eye easily and say our names.  She also loves to feed us.  We’ve discovered that she is no stranger to sugar.  Oh my.  She likes sweets.  In the midst of all our snacks on the shelf, she spotted Oreos, M & M’s, and jellybeans.  She has fed her gluten-free mommy an Oreo or two, and I happily ate them.  Anything for love, right?!

She loved Skypng with Erin and Alli.  She didn’t like it when they left.  She kept pointing at the screen and asking for them.

She loved her bath.  It seemed like a new thing to her, but at the same time, she kept pointing to her hair like I needed to wet it down.   She has a red dress that we sent in a care package.  She wears it over everything.  We went out for dinner last night and she insisted on putting the dress over the clothes I had put on her.  And she even wanted it over her pajamas.  So cute!!

It was such a full day.  I’m trying not to forget anything.

I’ll go ahead and send this.  I had to escape to the bathroom to write this as she tossed and turned all night and every time I moved, she sat up and asked me something.

OK, I’m going to download some pics and then send it.

Thank you so much for your prayers!

We have to leave right now for the Civil Affairs Office again.  I WIL L post pictures as soon as we get back!  Here’s one for now!
