Chinese Market and Mall

Here are a bunch of pictures from today.  We went to a Chinese street market and then a couple of malls.  The second mall was 4-5 stories of just jewelry stores.  We picked up some pearl items for when Jia is older.

We did a little shopping on the island yesterday.  Jia needed some new shoes.  It’s way too hot for snow boots and she hates anything that is white, like the tennis shoes I brought for her or the cute little sweater I brought for her.  We got some adorable little pink fabric shoes with flowers embroidered on them.  She loves them!  This morning as we met our guide said, “Oh, you bought her some slippers.  I don’t think she’ll want to do much walking in those.”  Oh. They’re slippers.  I thought they were just cute Chinese shoes.  So, we bought her a real pair of shoes at the mall.

I don’t have time to label each picture, but they’re pretty self-explanatory.  (I’ve even included a squatty potty for you, Lora.)  J  It’s nice one.

We’ve yet to have time to leisurely stroll the island.  We’ve either got naps or appointments or it gets dark.  I think Wednesday we’ll have a mostly free day.  I really want to take her to the playground and we have to go to the White Swan for the traditional red couch picture.

Tomorrow is the Consulate Appointment and a little more shopping with our guide.

  1. I'm having such a great time following your journey! And reliving my own. :) Guangzhou is beautiful and we so enjoyed our time there. Ok...so the squatty potty picture...that's like Ritz Carlton squatty potty. Since I was 27 weeks pregnant on our trip, I used a lot of them. The one on the Island was by far the weirdest. The walls were only like 3' high and there was a trough going from potty to potty to drain the pee to the end of the row. YUCK-O!

Anyway, we are praying for all of you!
